One Week Friends is a touching tale of persevering friendship. High schooler Yūki Hase has always noticed that his classmate Kaori Fujimiya is alone all the time and seems to have no friends of her own. Moved at her loneliness he offers to become her friend. He is surprised to hear her tell him that every Monday the very existence of all her friends disappear from memory. Although he now realises and understands why she is always lonely, he is determined nevertheless to always be her friend, wishing that one day she will finally call him ‘friend.’
“Hey… They say it’s five centimeters per second.”
“What do you mean?”
“The speed at which the sakura blossom petals fall… Five centimeters per second.”
Time is the longest distance between two places. It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important. Time may at moments of your life be a wonderful thing, as well as a terrible thing. Time is everything. Makoto Shinkai presents wonderfully in his masterpiece movie as time and distance being the barrier between two lovers. As it slowly passes, it gets harder and harder to reach each other as they move away and live different lives.

Studio Ghibli’s master artist, Hayao Miyazaki has given us his last masterpiece, The Wind Rises. The legacy of anime movies produced by this anime giant will end with The Wind Rises being the last film before retiring from producing anime. Among his most memorable throughout his career are: My Neighbour Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited away and Ponyo! Though there is only a very, very small chance he may change his mind, we all will keep hoping.
This New Year has presented us with another jewel from the anime world, Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta, an action adventure series with romance that’s looks packed with potential! What I’m expecting from this series: epic dogfight battles, an awesome storyline that makes sense, and eye-catching visuals and from the looks of it I’m pretty sure it’s going to check all the boxes!
